Jayden Halbgewachs turned a lot of heads during his 50-goal, 101-point season last year and now the Moose Jaw Warriors forward is looking to do the same this week at the Vegas Golden Knights' rookie camp.

After going undrafted over the past two years, Halbgewachs finally garnered some NHL attention this summer when he received an invite to the Golden Knights’ development camp.

With that experience in his back pocket, Halbgewachs is heading into this weekend’s rookie camp looking to to impress.

“It’s my first NHL training camp, so I’m pretty pumped about it,” he said. “I’m obviously looking forward to going down there, getting some more experience and putting a good impression out there.”

As a 20-year-old, Halbgewachs is eligible to play professional hockey this season.

Heading into the Golden Knights camp, the Emerald Park, SK product said he has his eyes on earning an entry level contract, but also believes another year with the Warriors will serve him best.

“The biggest thing right now for me is just impressing them,” said Halbgewachs. “Obviously at the end of the day you’d like to walk away with a contract, but for me right now, I’m not looking to play there this year, it’s in the best interest of my development to come back to Moose Jaw for another season.

“I’m obviously going to give it my all down there and try to do the best I can.”

Halbgewachs took a big step in his game last season when he led the Warriors in scoring, increasing his goal total by 35 and his point total by 60.

He said he’s hoping the experience he gains over the next week can help push those totals even higher.

“Playing up there you have to go hard every day and be consistent, so if I can go up there and do that there than I should be able to bring that back here,” said Halbgewachs.

“For me, it’s about experience going there, seeing what it’s all about and getting a good feel and hopefully I can bring that back to Moose Jaw and take my game to a new level.”

The Golden Knights’ rookie camp opens on-ice on Friday with fitness testing and a practice. They will practice again on Saturday, Sunday and Monday before heading to Los Angeles to take on the Kings in a pair of exhibition games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Halbgewachs is one of seven Warriors that are at NHL camps this week with Brett Howden and Oleg Sosunov in Tampa Bay; Tanner Jeannot and Dmitri Zaitsev heading to Washington; Josh Brook with the Montreal Canadiens; and Noah Gregor with the San Jose Sharks.

The Warriors return to the ice on Saturday when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at Mosaic Place. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
