Due to extreme heat in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Moose Jaw and the surrounding municipalities. A cooler break is expected Thursday and Friday followed by extreme heat again over the weekend.

A slow-moving surface ridge of high pressure from the Northwest US is moving into the western prairies resulting in a prolonged period of hot and humid conditions. Daytime high temperatures of near 32 degrees Celsius and warm overnight lows of near 16 degrees Celsius are expected. Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
