We were expecting to see some of the hottest weather of the year this week but the new forecast is telling us that it could get even warmer than first anticipated. The upper-level ridge has started to move into the province and will result in daytime highs around 32-35 degrees but by the weekend, we could be pushing 40 degrees.

All of western Saskatchewan is under a heat warning, including Moose Jaw while the east is under a special weather statement that will likely be upgraded to a warning Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning as the system tracks towards Manitoba.

"Typically with an upper ridge you get nice blue skies, benign weather but you also get really warm weather," explained Meteorologist Justin Shaer. "Toward the latter part of the week, we'll get past the mid-point of 30 degrees, so it'll be pretty hot this week."

Right now, the heat wave is expected to last through the weekend with some relief arriving Sunday afternoon with a 40% chance of showers. The extended forecast is calling for a return to normal for the new week.

Until the system moves out, officials are once again reminding everyone to plan ahead and take proper precautions like limiting time outside in the direct sunshine, taking frequent brakes, drink plenty of water and watch for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion that can include a lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness.
