Fire crews were quick to arrive at a house fire early Tuesday morning but there wasn’t much they could do as the structure was destroyed.

A home, that police suspected was empty, went up in flames overnight.

The call came into emergency crews just after 12:30 Tuesday morning. Firefighters were on the 600 block of Athabasca Street East within minutes but the home across from Prince Arthur School was destroyed.

One firefighter was injured and is now at home recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
