Premier Scott Moe called Regina a “hot spot” when it comes to the number of cases.

On Tuesday, Mar. 16, Regina alone had 101 new cases of COVID-19, including 61 new cases of variants of concern.

“While we're continuing to vaccinate people in every part of this province...we will be directing additional doses to Regina in the days ahead,” Moe said. “And of course, we're reminding Regina residents to stay particularly vigilant.”

The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said the number of cases in Regina is certainly troubling.

“What we're seeing in Regina is the opposite of the rest of the province."

Right now, the province is still recommending that residents in Regina make their household bubble small and avoid any unnecessary travel.

However, while the rest of the province will be allowed to expand the number of attendees at places of worship, Regina will be limited to 30.

The drive-thru vaccination clinic for AstraZeneca vaccines will continue to run at the exhibition grounds in the Queen City. The clinic is working at full capacity and administered 1,700 vaccines on Monday.

Overall, about 4,000 vaccines were administered in the province yesterday. As for restrictions, other than expanding the household bubbles to 10 people and expansion of attendance of places of worship, all other public health orders will be in place until April 5.

The premier called this a time for cautious optimism and Shahab expects that all adults should have their first shots by mid-June.
