The community has been so good to the Moose Jaw Humane Society that they want to give back.

The eighth annual Giving Tuesday is coming up on Dec. 1, but for the humane society, it is going to look a little bit different this year.

Last year, the shelter bagged groceries all day at Safeway, but due to COVID-19 regulations, they were able to do it again this year.

Instead, the humane society will be collecting gently used purses and small items to put into the purses to donate to the Moose Jaw Transition House.

“We're trying to come up with ideas that the women at the transition House wouldn't get from the Transition House and little special items like nail polish, nail polish remover, some nice body lotion, some cozy socks. They have to be small items to fit in the purse,” said humane society executive director Dana Haukaas.

Other items that can be donated include:

  • Body wash
  • New jewelry
  • Chocolates
  • Notebooks
  • Masks
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Lip balm
  • Gift cards

“You can bring the purses or the personal items right to the Humane Society. If you just give a knock on the door, you can pass them through or we do have a donation bin in our porch that we check regularly throughout the day,” Haukaas said.

Donations will be taken at the shelter until Nov. 30 and the staff plan on delivering the items to the Moose Jaw Transition House on Dec. 1.
