They've been eliminated from the competition, but that hasn't dampened the spirits of those working at the Moose Jaw Humane Society.  The local shelter received the news last week, that total votes earned them 17th position in the Aviva Community Fund competition, in the small project category. They needed a top ten finish to advance to the finals and a chance at $10,000.

The Humane Society was trying to raise money to help replace their aging and deteriorating cat cages.  So, according to Fundraising Coordinator Karla Pratt they're moving on to plan B.  "We're looking for ten sponsors or individuals that would be interested pledging $500 each.  If we can raise $5,000 this way that would be able to help us purchase ten new cat cages," she explained

"This isn't something that we can just put on the back burner, we need to replace these cages.  Even the ones that we are currently using are falling apart."   Pratt says that new cages would make a tremendous difference in the lives of the felines they currently take care of.
