The Moose Jaw Warriors three-game winning streak to open the Subway WHL Hub in Regina ended on Thursday with a 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg ICE.

Throughout the first period, the Warriors did a good job creating turnovers inside the Winnipeg zone or at their blueline.

At 12:11, defenceman Cole Jordan stepped up inside the neutral zone and broke up an ICE rush with a poke check.

Jordan then grabbed the puck and burst towards the Winnipeg net where he put a shot past goalie Carl Stankowski for his first of the season.

Winnipeg was able to respond late in the period when a point shot went off a Warriors skate and right to Zachary Benson, who was all alone in the low slot where he scored to tie the game.

Winnipeg started the second period strong and used an aggressive fore-check to give the Warriors issues inside their zone.

Moose Jaw got into penalty problems early in the period which led to a Winnipeg two-man advantage for 59 seconds.  The ICE made good on the opportunity as Peyton Krebs scored to give them their first lead.

The ICE went up by two with under six minutes left in the period when they came off the Warriors right wall and eventually set up Owen Pederson on top of the crease.

Inside the final two minutes of the period, the Warriors landed on the power play and used this opportunity to get themselves back into the game.

Brayden Yager took a shot from the right blue line that found its way onto the Winnipeg net.  With the puck loose in the crease, Eric Alarie chipped in his third of the season to pull Moose Jaw to within one.

Moose Jaw had momentum entering the third, but the ICE froze them four minutes in with a goal from Cole Muir to go back up by two.

As the third period continued, the Warriors pressed to try and fight their way back into the game.  Inside the final three minutes, they landed on the power play and pulled their goalie for a two-man advantage.

Unfortunately, the gamble did not pay off as the ICE notched a shorthanded empty-net goal to finish the game and hand the Warriors a 5-2 loss.

Moose Jaw will have Friday off to get ready for their first meeting of the season against the Swift Current Broncos coming up on Saturday.  Catch all the action from the Subway WHL Hub Centre starting at 3:40 pm on Country 100.
