They call Assiniboia part of the "south country". This Saturday, it will be home to several countries all represented in one place.

The Assiniboia & District Chamber of Commerce is hosting their first ever Ethnic Jubilee October 17 at the Assiniboia Curling rink in the Prince Of Wales centre.

"It's brand new," says Assiniboia Chamber spokesperson Glen Hall. "We had something like this about 20 years ago called a 'Festival Of Nations' but that was a little different.  This will be a one day event."

Kathy Bergeron is one of the organizers and says that in addition to several ethnic food booths, there will be a great deal of international entertainment.

"We have the Tilted Kilts, a high-energy Scottish/Irish singing group from Regina, we have the Prairie Gael Irish dancers, French singer Annette Campagne, Filipinos doing a bamboo dance...we also have a Brazilian coming to teach us how to do the samba."

The doors open at noon and the event runs 12:30 until midnight, though Bergeron says if you like clothing, you will want to be there at 6 as they showcase "ethnic fashion".

Admission to the event is $5 for adults, and children 6 and under get in free.
