Irvine was born in Assiniboia in December 1932 to parents Oscar and Inga Gronsdahl. Dad was raised on the family farm west of Congress with older brother, John. Dad’s love of farming was instilled at an early age, and truly was his passion. Irvine attended Advance School to grade 7, then Progress Hill School in Congress to grade 11. Dad’s grade 12 year was spent at Luther College in Regina. Once his schooling was complete, Irvine returned to the farm at Congress. He was happiest on his tractor, tending to his crops, or puttering around the yard. In 1963 Irvine married Eldeen Kyle and together they raised their two children, Kevin and Karla. The family resided on the farm at Congress, moved into Assiniboia for a brief period of time, before taking over the Kyle farm, four miles east of Assiniboia in 1973. Irvine and Eldeen moved into Assiniboia in 1996 when Kevin came home to farm. Dad continued to come to the farm daily until his dementia took hold in 2016. Even still, he liked nothing more than going for a drive in the country to look at the crops and going for a ride in the combine at harvest time. Irvine loved sports. Curling, hockey and baseball were particular favorites. Dad spoke often of his time spent managing hockey, and the fun bus trips, watching the boys play and rebel-rousing with the other parents. As his years following Kevin and Karla around the countryside watching their sports came to an end, Irvine could often be heard muttering at the TV while watching his favorite teams. Irvine loved his family. He was never more proud than when grandchildren Megan, Connor, Jenna, and Kyle came along. He loved to hear about all their activities and accomplishments, and would be very proud of the young people they have grown into. Irvine was predeceased by his father, Oscar in 1969; mother, Inga in 1998; sister-in-law, Sharon in 2019; and brother John, in 2021. Irvine is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eldeen; son, Kevin, Kevin’s wife Peggy, and their children Megan, Connor, and Jenna; daughter Karla, and her husband Michael Carlson, and their son Kyle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family. A celebration of Irvine’s life will be held August 12, 2022, 2:00 pm at Ross Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert Langdon officiating. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery followed by fellowship and lunch at 55 Club. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
