The Women Fore Women Golf Tournament has hit a hole-in-one as their 3rd annual August 20th fundraising event at the Hillcrest Golf Club has completely sold out.

One hundred female golfers will take part in the tournament, with all the proceeds going towards their scholarship fund to assist young women with their post-secondary education and sports ambitions.

“It feels awesome, the fundraising has gone so well,” says Deb Negraiff, Scholarship Chair. “We are excited that this has filled up again because it did last year too.”

Deb Negraiff, who is a retired teacher is among three Hillcrest ladies that are responsible for the scholarship portion

“The fact that it’s for young women, when you look at scholarships in sports for women, they just don’t exist. This is a direction we took and it’s getting together to have fun for a good cause,” adds Negraiff.

Negraiff couldn’t confirm if this year’s tournament will allow them to hand out additional scholarships next June, but she is very certain they will be able to.

At the end of June this year, tournament organizers handed out three $2,000 scholarships to Mya Vickzo, Malea Kletzel, and Summer Okerstrom from the funds raised at last year’s sold-out event. After receiving their respective scholarships, each recipient was very appreciative of the event and what it stands for.

“I heard the same thing from the girls and their parents,”

Only in their third year putting on the tournament, word has spread, making it a must-do in the community for not just the golf, but the basis behind what the event stands for.

“Obviously word has gotten out in the school community, that we’re doing these scholarships, word is travelling. The business community has been amazing, they’re so supportive of this, very approachable, and more than willing to donate cash or prizes. It’s been pretty cool.”

Registration is $60 for Hillcrest members and $85 for non-members. Each attendee's fee will cover their golf, and a gift bag filled with locally donated products. On-course prizes will include the longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt, and closest-to-the-lines prizes. There will also be a hole-in-one prize of a 2022 XT4 Cadillac from Murray GM.

The tournament format is pure fun. Players of all levels are welcome, and the event is played with two-player teams in a 6x3 format -- six holes of Texas scramble, six holes of alternate shot, and six holes of the best score.
