Regina and Moose Jaw are teaming up to try and host the 2013 Juno Awards.

Each city held a council meeting Monday night to discuss the proposal and both groups approved the application.  The province is even jumping on board with $1.5 million dollars in funding. Regina is putting up $350,000 with Moose Jaw kicking in $50,000.

If the bid is approved, the Canadian music industries awards gala would be held in the Queen City and Moose Jaw would have its share of events according to City Clerk Myron Gulka-Tiechko.

"The City of Moose Jaw would share a number of the activities during Juno Festival Week including the Juno Cup hockey tournament and the use of a number of other facilities in Moose Jaw including the Mae Wilson Theatre for showcasing a number of the acts that will be profiled at the Junos themselves."

The Juno Cup is a tournament would be held in the new multiplex featuring NHL greats taking on some of the music industries brightest talent. So far there is no word on when the host city will be picked.

The Juno's have only been held in Saskatchewan once and that was back in 2007.

That was a special year for our province. Not only were the Juno's held in Saskatoon, the Western Canadian Music Awards were held here in Moose Jaw plus the Gemini's, the Canadian Television Awards Gala, was held in Regina.
