Chances are you saw the signs and the riders around south hill this past weekend.

Wakamow Valley was home base for the K +S Potash MS Bike tour Saturday and Sunday, with participants cycling up to 150 kilometers to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis Research.

The annual event was held in several locations across the province over the weekend, including Moose Jaw.

"It's great," said long-time volunteer Leola Fast. "It's in Regina as well, Saskatoon, Watrous (and) Waskesiu, but this is the first time I've volunteered for it in Moose Jaw."

Well over 100 cyclists enjoyed warm, and not-too-windy weather for the Moose Jaw event, which included a Saturday night banquet and performance by local singer/songwriter Megan Nash, who also recruited family to help out.

"I thought 'I bet I could get my folks here'," said Nash. "So I called mom and dad, they said 'absolutely' so they're here (volunteering)."

"I have met so many wonderful people (this weekend)," said Fast. "I got to know a lady...and her daughter is doing into medical school.  She taught me stuff about Multiple Sclerosis that I didn't know."

According to the MS Society of Canada website, "MS is currently classified as an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord). The disease attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves, causing inflammation and often damaging the myelin."

Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world, with about 100,000 Canadians living with the disease.  About 3500 of those are in Saskatchewan.

MS Bike Tour organizers expect to have a final fundraising total from the event by early September.
