The skies of Moose Jaw will be lit up on Canada Day this Saturday, as the annual Kinsmen Canada Fireworks display is back.

The fireworks are sponsored by the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club with the support of Tourism Moose Jaw and will take place at the Hamilton Flats slo-pitch area (1100 Manitoba St. W).

Trish German is with Tourism Moose Jaw and says that the fireworks display will start at dusk.

“Pretty much 10 to 10:30, once it’s dark enough, and the [Moose Jaw] fire department is there for standby, and our pyrotechs are ready to go, we will start shooting them off,” says German.

She adds that the fireworks display is something that people look forward to year after year.

“The number of vehicles and families that show up every year just amazes me. Even during COVID [19] and we weren’t doing anything, and we couldn’t do anything, people still socially distanced in their cars and had a couple of lawn chairs. The last few years have been great, and it just keeps getting better,” adds German.

For those that may want to head down to Hamilton Flats, German asks motorists to obey all traffic laws and don’t block the roadways.

“Everyone parks on Thatcher Drive and upwards towards the Moose Jaw Humane Society. You cannot get into the dog park or the ball diamonds because that is blocked off for the safety of everyone. You can pull into the ditch and get a couple of cars deep and watch from there.”

If you’re looking for something to do throughout Canada Day, German mentions that Sask Express will be putting on a free concert at the Crescent Park Amphitheatre starting at 4:00 p.m., which Tourism Moose Jaw is sponsoring.

Sask Express is a provincial performing arts touring group, that features performers from across Saskatchewan.

ParkArt will also be taking over Crescent Park on Canada Day. It kicks off at 10:00 a.m. and wraps up at 4:00 p.m. The event is a major fundraiser for the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery (MJM&AG).

The Moose Jaw Miller Express will also be hosting its annual Canada Day game at Ross Wells Park. They will host the Weyburn Beavers starting at 6:05 p.m.

And Moose Jaw’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 will be hosting its 2nd annual Canada Day Cabaret. The cabaret doors open at 5:00 p.m. and will conclude at 2:00 a.m.
