Local residents were learning about the immigration process on Friday, and how local businesses can work with consultants to hire newcomers to the friendly city.

The International Immigration and Business Consulting program, has been helping local businesses match with, and hire new immigrants into Saskatchewan, either as employees or as partial owners.

Dirk Propp, CEO, says Saskatchewan has been eager to hire and help immigrants, which is having a great effect on the unemployment rate;

"Right now we are at the lowest unemployment Canada has seen in 17 years which has a positive effect. There's two pockets right now in Saskatchewan that have under 6% unemployment which, listening to economic speakers, its only going to get better in 2018 and again in 2019".

"The business program in Saskatchewan is amazing right now. There's a lot of people that are coming here to start businesses, buy businesses, wanting to partner. We really need to look at that and we need to focus on that and value added products. Its going to be next-level".

Between 2011 and 2016, Saskatchewan saw its population percentage of Immigrants go from 20.6% to 21.9%
