It's a jam-packed week for the New Southern Plains Metis Local 160 group in the Friendly City.

Monday evening, they've got a turkey dinner fundraiser to help support local programming at 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Tickets are $13.00 and available at the door at Veroba's Restaraunt.

Later this week, they will be at Saskatchewan Polytechnic participating in a Louis Riel Memorial and Métis Flag Raising Celebration. Campuses across the province will also be joining in this Friday honouring the rebel and spiritual leader.

In the past, the New Southern Plains Metis Local 160 has participated in the flag raising, but now they will have a much larger role in it by helping to facilitate lessons among other things.

"This will be the first year we'll actually have a display right at the function so we're looking forward to that," Vice President Darrel Hawman said. "[Sask Polytech's] been great to work with it's just wonderful to have people local and I know there are about a 130 or 160 Metis people that go through in a given year so there are Metis people going through the Polytech every year and this is just one way for them to get recognized for their own local group."

At 9 am on campus, the Metis flag will be raised, then at 11:30 am in the cafeteria, there will be Creeland Dancers, a traditional meal, and Louis Riel and Metis displays.
