It was the first Speech from the Throne under the leadership of Premier Scott Moe laying out the plans for the next few months at the Saskatchewan Legislature.

With a theme of "Standing up For Saskatchewan", the speech talked about the ongoing fight over carbon taxation with Ottawa and what the provincial government plans to do.

This past week, Ottawa announced that they will be issuing rebates of the fees they collect, giving the money directly to taxpayers. Moose Jaw North MLA Warren Michelson is highly critical of the plan.

"Really the Prime Minister is trying to buy votes but there's no common sense in his whole approach," said Michelson. "The way that they're doing it and they way they're imposing it, that's part of the reason that we've got the court case that we filed against them. We're not backing off on that and we're going to stand up for Saskatchewan people."

Michelson said as a province they have developed a plan to deal with carbon and believe they have a good case against the federal government. Premier Moe has called the rebate announcement a sham, adding that the plan is just the federal Liberals buying taxpayer votes with their own money.
