Coffee row conversations over the past few weeks were fueled by weather - more specifically the lack of moisture our city and surrounding area have seen.

Clouds rolled in on Wednesday and brought what almost seemed foreign to Moose Jaw residents, as rain began to fall with showers that have been spotty ever since.

Many producers let out a sigh of relief, although a hope for more moisture isn't far behind. Central Butte's Corrine Newton took in Canada's Farm Progress Show on Thursday and explained that their area of southern Saskatchewan hasn't seen much of anything in terms of precipitation in quite some time.

"Up until yesterday, we got that snow on the 27th of April. I think we got about 6/10ths on our farm on Saturday and then yesterday thankfully the skies opened up and we got just over an inch. Things are looking a little better than they were so that's good," Newton said.

She noted that in her area crops and pastures were taking a turn for the worst, although some were still managing to push through these dry times.

"They were starting to shut down, they were starting to turn yellow. I was amazed that things were growing with what little moisture they had, but hopefully, this makes a difference and things get on track," Newton added. "It'll be slow, everything's behind but hopefully get some sunshine and everything will be good."

A few more wet systems are predicted to move through in the next few days, with the forecast stating showers and rain through to Saturday night before things transition back to warmer conditions.
