Some local youngsters will be making their way to Ontario for the 5-pin bowling National Championship.

Three boys from Moose Jaw’s YBC 5-pin Bowling Club are currently getting ready to go to Oshawa to compete in the nationals from July 10th to the 12th.

Brekken Hill and Hunter Anderson are on the YBC bantam doubles team and they will be competing together.

Jackson Leroy is a 19-year-old singles competitor who will be bowling alone in the singles national championship.

The YBC Bowling Coordinator, Linda McIntyre, is excited to see the boys advance after an amazing season leading up to the nationals.

“Brekken had his best year ever, he was a stellar bowler. Hunter is just a consistent bowler but he’s improved this year as well. Jackson has just been awesome for lots of years,” says McIntyre.

In Ontario, they will be competing against eight other provinces in both the singles and doubles divisions.

"It's exciting and it's an awesome opportunity for the kids... (Bowling) can be competitive or it can be just for fun or it can be both obviously," says McIntyre.

Leroy won the provincial singles competition back in early December in Regina and has been preparing to go to Ontario ever since.

Hill and Anderson won the provincial doubles competition in early March.

Ever since their victory, the two boys have been fundraising to help cover the costs of going to Ontario.

According to the YBC Bowling Facebook page, there’s currently a prize draw that people can enter for a cheers basket that includes wine and a variety of coolers. A winning name will be drawn on July 1st.

Anderson’s family is also doing a bottle drive fundraiser to help take Anderson to nationals. A phone number for the bottle drive can be found on the YBC Facebook page.
