Carson and Skylar Ackerman both finished Day 2 of the 2018 Saskatchewan Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championship on a winning note on Thursday night.

Carson Ackerman beat fellow Moose Javian Brett Behm, 9-3, which puts both rinks’ records at 1-2 through five draws at the provincial championship.

Ackerman took control of the game early, scoring one in the first, then stealing two in the second and one more in the third to move in front 4-0. Behm battled back with singles in the fourth and fifth, but he couldn’t get any close as Ackerman scored deuces in the eighth and ninth ends to seal the win.

In the morning draw, Ackerman had lost 8-5 to Regina’s Mitchell Dales, while Behm dropped a 9-2 game to Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter.

After losing two straight to open provincials, Skylar Ackerman found her way into the win column on Thursday night, beating Weyburn’s Emily Haupstein, 7-4.

The game was tight early with Haupstein leading 3-2 after six, but Ackerman took control late. She scored two in the seventh, hold Haupstein to one in the eighth and then finished off the win with three in the ninth.

Ackerman sits at 1-2 after five draws. She will be back in action on Friday afternoon against Saskatoon’s Hanna Anderson, who is 2-1. They square off at 12:30 p.m.

Carson Ackerman will also be back on the ice for Draw 7, taking on Regina’s Austin Williamson (1-2), while Behm goes up against Maidstone’s Cody Sutherland (0-3). Both games are at 12:30 p.m.

All three local teams are also in action for the night draw at 8:30 p.m.
