Assiniboia held a town council meeting on Tuesday evening, where the topic of marijuana retailers was brought up.

Kerri Martin, assistant to the CAO:

"Based on the provincial legislation, our community is eligible to have one retail outlet. So if someone wants to come forward and open that outlet, Council has chosen to approve of that one retail outlet."

When asked what the next step is, Martin said she's not quite sure.

"This is all fairly new right now. Council doesn't have any plans at this time to have any kind of a forum on it. I think this is the first step, and we're still waiting to see what provincial legislation will look like."

Another topic discussed by the Assinboia Council was their new water treatment plant upgrades, and who would be working on it.

"We awarded the tender to CCR Construction for the Water Treatment Plant upgrades of 2.1 million dollars."

Martin added she's not sure when the upgrades are going to be finished, but she hopes they will be completed by the end of this year.
