On May 15, residents are being encouraged to get out and help clean up our city.

Being proclaimed as Community Clean Up Day in Moose Jaw, the City of Moose Jaw’s Community Clean Up Committee is inviting people to come together to pick up garbage and tidy up their respective areas of the city from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day. This is part of Community Clean Up Week from May 9-15.

The city’s Community Clean Up committee is a relatively new committee, as it was created in March of last year.

“We had put this committee together just to encourage groups and individuals to kind of create a higher level of ownership and pride in our neighbourhoods,” said committee chair Coun. Kim Robinson.

Any residents or groups that are interested in taking part should email cleanup@moosejaw.ca or join the Clean Up MJ Facebook group and send a message so that the committee knows which areas of Moose Jaw you’d like to clean up.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Moose Jaw Coop Marketplace parking lot where residents can pick up garbage bags and cleaning supplies that are being supplied by the city.

Robinson said they are hoping for a good turnout.

“We just want to get everybody together and business owners, residents and school participation would be great,” he said.

While residents are out cleaning, they are encouraged to post pictures on social media with the hashtag #CleanUpMJ.

At 1 p.m., the event will wrap up with a “thank you” barbecue courtesy of Moose Jaw Coop. Volunteers will receive a free voucher for the barbecue, while others can buy a meal for $5.
