May was hotter and drier than average in Moose Jaw and this trend is expected to continue for the rest of the summer.

The average temperature in Moose Jaw for the month of May was 14.7°C.

“That compared to the 30-year average of 12.1°C, and that made it the 8th warmest on record in 126 years of records,” said Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist, Terri Lang.

There was a noticeable lack of precipitation in Moose Jaw last month as well. 16.9 mm of precipitation fell which is about 65 per cent less than falls in a typical May. The 30-year average is 48 mm.

May 2023 was the 8th warmest in the last 126 years, while the month was the 24th driest in the last 128 years.

"The June forecast specifically is for hot conditions, so above average and It's indicated it will also be drier than average as well,” noted Lang.

Summer is expected to follow this trend. Hot and dry, but Lang notes that one storm can make a whole difference in respect to precipitation.
