A month that was jam-packed with astronomical events will be ending in spectacular style tonight as we’ll be treated to not only a super moon but a super blue moon.

Tonight’s full moon will be the second of the month, making it a blue moon, and will coincide with the moon’s perigee, the point of the moon’s orbit closest to Earth, making it a supermoon.

The last time this combination of celestial events occurred was in December 2009 and won’t happen again for another nine years.

Energy 4 Life Moose Jaw is hosting a community meditation tonight at their studios at 303 High Street West in conjunction with the super blue moon starting at 7:15 p.m.

“It’s at a time when our intuition, our emotion, and our energy are heightened by the full moon. We advise people to bring any comforts they need for meditation, like a pillow, a mat, a blanket, water, crystals,” said Michelle Power, practioner and facilitator with Energy 4 Life, adding that meditation novices and beginners are welcome.

“It’s a way to get people out to enjoy consciousness and the super moon and hear more about it. If they’ve never meditated, that’s not a problem. We encourage people to come out and do this for wellness and energy,” added Power.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser for SCRAPS. Those looking to attend are asked to bring $15 or a food item for SCAPS – Stray Cat Rescue and Protection Society.
