A long-time member of the Moose Jaw Fire Department is calling it a career.

Senior Captain Chris Ozog retired on Friday after 37 years with the fire department.

Ozog was hired as a firefighter on Feb. 3, 1986. He was promoted to Lieutenant on May 1, 2015, and to Shift Captain on Oct. 1, 2016. He was promoted to Senior Captain on April 16, 2019.

"Throughout Chris's career, he strived to be a role model and mentor for new employees," Fire Chief Rod Montgomery said in a press release. "Chris was remarkably talented mechanically and, as a welder, that enabled him to assist with the fire department's fleet maintenance which was greatly appreciated over the years."

Ozog received his 20-year Exemplary Service Medal in 2006, the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in 2011 and his 30-year Exemplary Service Bar in February of 2016.

Ozog declined to be interviewed about his retirement.
