The Moose Jaw Midget AA Warriors kicked off their season on a high note on Sunday in Swift Current.

Moose Jaw skated to a 7-2 win over the Hurricanes to open the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League schedule.

The Warriors scored early and often in the win with Brogan Townsend opening the scoring just 11 seconds into the game. Before the first minute was over, Austin Miller added to the Warriors lead, making it 2-0.

Miller finished with two goals and five points in the win for the Warriors as they led 4-1 after the first and 7-1 after the second.

Dawson Kurz had two goals and three points, while captain Joey Prebushewski and Josh Bryant scored the other goals in the win. Ryan Botterill chipped in with four assists for Moose Jaw.

Goalie Garrett Goy turned away 17 shots to pick up the win, while the Warriors peppered the Swift Current net with 46 shots.

Moose Jaw will return to the ice on Saturday when they head to Melville to face the Millionaires. They'll be in Yorkton on Sunday to face the Yorkton Terriers.

Bantam AA Warriors Drop Pair

The Moose Jaw Bantam AA Warriors didn't fare well in their two games over the weekend.

They lost 6-3 to the Weyburn Wings on Saturday and then dropped a 9-1 game to the Sask Valley Vipers on Sunday, both on home ice.

Nolan Jones had a pair of goals in Saturday's 6-3 loss and added another in Sunday's 9-1 loss.

The Warriors are 0-3 on the year. They return to the ice on Saturday in the Battlefords to take on the Barons.
