In what’s been nothing short of a dominant season so far at the Midget AAA level, Swift Current goaltender Chase Coward has officially signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The Red Deer Rebels had obviously seen all they needed to pull the trigger, as they signed the previously-listed Coward to the contract on Tuesday.

The homegrown netminder has spent the season between the pipes for the Moose Jaw Midget AAA Warriors, with a 1.83 goals-against-average, a .940 save-percentage, 7-5 record, and two shutouts over a dozen starts.

Coward’s goals-against-average and save-percentage are both tops in the Sask Midget AAA Hockey League among goalies with ten or more starts.

The Rebels, meanwhile, are rebuilding somewhat this season, sporting a 7-11-0-3 record, allowing 3.95 goals per game.

The 2003-born Coward and his AAA Warriors club continue SMAAAHL play Thursday when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at Mosaic Place.
