It was a bittersweet night for the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Thursday, as their eight-game win streak was snapped by the Sylvan Lake Gulls by a score of 9-5.

Zach Campbell, went three-for-five at the plate with an RBI, while Cam Grant drove in a run and added three hits of his own, and Nate Mensik had two RBIs in the loss and two hits.

After Thursday night’s loss, the Millers’ are only three and a half games ahead of the Regina Red Sox, as they beat the Edmonton Prospects last night 7-3.

Moose Jaw’s offense, like it has all season started strong. With one on, Cam Grant would blast his third home run of the season scoring Zach Campbell. One batter later, Nate Mensik would hit a triple and eventually crossed the plate to give Moose Jaw the early 3-0 lead.

The Gulls would respond in their half of the first inning. Michael Polson would lead off with a single, and then Chase Rodriguez would crush a two-run homer to put Sylvan Lake on the board.

Moose Jaw’s offense would continue in the second inning as they would add one more run, after a Gull's error scoring Martin Rodriquez to give the Millers’ a 4-2 lead.

Sylvan Lake would tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning after Kaden Zarowny hits a two-out double.

Both teams would exchange runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5. The game when then go in favour of the Gulls in the eighth inning. After a scoreless top half for Moose Jaw, Sylvan Lake would pick up four runs in their half of the inning to take the lead 9-5.

In the ninth inning, the Millers’ would load the bases with the tying run at the plate, but reliever Ty Boudreau would strike out Parker Dorrance to end the game and pick up the win.

Starter, Tim Carlson threw four innings, only allowing two runs on five hits, and striking out four in the no-decision.

Livio Bundi takes the loss pitching one inning and giving up four runs on three hits.

Moose Jaw will look for revenge on Friday night in the rematch with the Gulls at 7:05 p.m.

The Millers will be back at home on Wednesday to begin a four-game homestand starting with a two-game series against the Brooks Bombers.
