The Moose Jaw Mustangs Lacrosse Association (MJLAX) is gearing up for the upcoming season with the intent to offer box and field programs.
Box lacrosse will be held at Mosaic Place and/or the Kinsmen Sportsplex, and is open to players ages six to 16.
Field lacrosse is open to players ages five to 18 and will be played at the 1996 Canada Summer Games Fields.
The box league is planning to start early next month, depending on restrictions, and field lacrosse is tentatively set for early May.
"We've had our registration open for a little over two weeks and our registration numbers good for the short timeframe that we've been open," says Mustangs president Cody Nidesh
The COVID-19 pandemic has made planning for youth sports difficult, especially with the changing restrictions.
The league is not ready to move practices outdoors, with some snow still on the ground, so it must continue to find creative ways to have practice indoors.
“We are definitely planning behind the scenes,” says Nidesh. “Everybody is in the same situation, you’re planning and planning, and then the announcement comes out and it’s like ‘oh we weren’t expecting that.’”
MJLAX is looking for coaches for the younger divisions.
