The Prairie South School Division laid out its plan for the South Hill Schools to parents Monday night at Riverview Collegiate.

Close to 50 parents were on hand to hear about the plan that will see grade seven and eight students from Westmount and Empire take their afternoon classes at Riverview, classes that elementary school students normally wouldn't get to take.

School Board Trustee Darrell Crabbe says they will be taking some of the concerns and ideas parents raised at the meeting and will try to work them into the plan.

"After one year or maybe even after the first semester, at Christmas time, it would be a time to re-evaluate and maybe do some further tweaking to see what we can do to enhance it further or to alleviate any of the concerns that anybody might have."

Many parents at the meeting agreed with the plan, while others were against the proposal like Kim McAuley. She has a child who will be going into Grade 8 at Westmount.

"Just mixing seven and eights with high school kids. The majority of our parents at our school were against it and they weren't listened to by the board."

On the other side is Elizabeth, who also has a child at Westmount. She says they're excited for the opportunities that the changes will present.

"Kudos to the people that planned the time table and who took the hours and hours and are taking the grief that they're taking for trying something new and for trying to move ahead. Some of the students are anxious, some of the parents are anxious. We all resist change but for goodness sakes, lets teach our students to face those changes and challenges. If it works, awesome. If it doesn't then lets go to Plan B."

The Prairie South School Board wants to have the changes in place by this fall and that will mean a lot of work over the summer to make sure schedules work out.
