Most businesses in Moose Jaw have now reopened under the 'Re-open Saskatchewan plan' after the majority had to close their doors in March due to the ongoing pandemic.

The final part of 'Phase 4" of the re-open plan comes into effect Thursday and will see racetracks and rodeo-related activities, live performances in restaurants, licensed establishments and farmers markets, banquet and conference facilities, and car shows and trade shows all allowed to open.

So far, according to Rob Clark, CEO of the Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce, everyone he's talked to has been busy since they've reopened their doors.

"Originally they were worried about customers, about getting customers back, but some are actually back to 'pre-COVID' employees, and have actually hired a few more. All are very positive about what's happening, everyone I've talked to are just excited to be working and they're telling me they're having a great month."

Clark says it's the same message and story as usual, but it's more important than ever to support local and shop local, and so far, residents have been doing that.

"The word that I'm getting - I haven't heard too much on the other side - but on the positive side they are just happy to see customers, happy to see people, happy to have their doors open, and I think all of them are reacting in a positive way. They're really promoting their businesses and everyone I've talked to is really really positive, and some actually have increased numbers compared to last year."

The Chamber is also helping Moose Jaw businesses by setting up a 'Pop-Up Patio pilot program' through the summer months, which started this week. The program encourages businesses and restaurants to set up temporary outdoor dining areas for customers, and may also see the city of Moose Jaw designate a specific street or area as a common eating area, where customers from all restaurants can bring their food to dine.
