For the first time in three years, Moose Jaw’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 is able to put on its annual Remembrance Day service in a week's time with no gathering size restrictions.

The event will take place on Nov. 11, at the Moose Jaw Events Centre with a 10:45 a.m. start.

Ret. Lt. Commander Canadian Navy and the legion’s Poppy Chair Sue Knox says several military personnel will be in attendance for this year's service.

“We’re going to have a full ceremony for the first in three years," says Knox. “The folks that will join us are the other service organizations within Moose Jaw. Hopefully, the cadets will be there. 15 Wing Moose Jaw will have representatives there, we will have the Colour Party from the Legion as well. Hopefully, we can get back on track.”

The legion asks that people attending the service be inside the events centre by 10:30 a.m.

Wreaths will be available to be purchased at the legion office (268 High St W) prior to the ceremony on Nov. 11. The wreaths will be available the day of for or have a member of the legion lay them for you. Those interested can phone the office at 306-692-5453.

Following the service, people are invited to Branch 59 for an open house get-together that Knox says will be filled with stories, fun, and reflection in a way to honour past and present Moose Jaw veterans.

“A lot of them were legion members back in the day and there’s a lot of stories from that side of things as well. That group of people used to have a lot of fun down there and were glad that they had the opportunity to socialize in an environment where others understood their previous predicaments.”

The Legion is letting people know that the veterans parade after the service will not be taking place due to the ice and cold weather expected for Friday.
