Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons earned his first win with his new rink on Wednesday.
Simmons beat Niklas Edin, 7-5, in the second day of action at the Grand Slam of Curling's Tour Challenge in Regina.
The win improves the Winnipeg-based rink’s record to 1-1. Simmons and company are back in action for two games on Thursday, facing Heath McCormick at 12:30 p.m. and Kyle Smith at 8 p.m.
In the Men's Tier 2 division, Moose Jaw's Brock Montgomery and the Adam Casey rink split their two games on Wednesday to open their time at the Tour Challenge. They beat Jason Ackerman, 11-2, in the afternoon and then fell 9-7 to Charley Thomas in the night draw.
The Casey rink will square off with last year’s Alberta provincial champion, Brendan Bottcher, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
On the women's side, the Penny Barker rink out of Moose Jaw lost their second straight game, falling 7-5 to American Jamie Sinclair. Amber Holland skipped for the Barker rink in the loss.
They return to the ice at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday for an all-Saskatchewan showdown against Stefanie Lawton.
The round robin continues on Thursday and Friday at the Cooperators Centre in Regina followed by the playoff round on the weekend.
