Saskatchewan will be represented at the national level by a Moose Javian at the 2018 National Music Festival in New Brunswick.

Louren Sazon and her music teacher will be heading out east to attend the competition where she will preform 5 songs, against competitors from all over Canada representing their provinces and territories.

Sazon moved to Canada from the Philippines 5 years ago and wanted to continue her passion of singing in her new home.

Sazon detailed her competition experience up to date.

"I'm 18 years old and I've been singing since I was about 5 or 6 years old. Since then, I've joined a lot of singing competitions, including some back in the Philippines."

Sazon and her music teacher, Jeri-Lynn Ryba, would meet for the first time in grade 9 where Sazon was one of Ryba's students.

Ryba explained what it's like to work with someone as passionate as Sazon.

"She's always just had talent that was in her. She was born with that and it's been a lot of fun as well as exciting for me to work with someone with that kind of depth of talent and emotion when they sing. She's just been overall a great experience."

Sazon performed at Moose Jaw's Music Festival, and was selected to compete at provincials, where she was chosen to represent Saskatchewan at the National Music Festival.

The festival begins on August 12th and will conclude on August 18th.
