Fewer Moose Javians called Crime Stoppers in 2020 compared to previous years.

That's according to the latest statistic from the Moose Jaw Police Department.

Local coordinator, Cst. Josh MacNaughton says the program helped the police in a number of cases.

"[Tips] led to 6 arrests but also assisted in a couple of other investigations that are ongoing. Some of them were for shoplifters as well as thefts of packages from porches. The others were for wanted people that we were able to execute warrants on."

Even with the tips that led to arrests, not every caller chose to collect their reward.

"I believe only two people actually collected their rewards, which is fairly normal," says MacNaughton. "Most people don't come back to collect their tips. But I would encourage people who did give tips to check back on them because if they are eligible for a reward it would be outstanding and they could collect in a timely manner."

MacNaughton says the decline in the number of tips may simply have been because people were staying at home more last year.

Overall, It might have been a slightly slower year for Moose Jaw Crime Stoppers, but the grassroots program still plays a vital part in keeping our city safe.

"Watch for people parked in their vehicles for a long time or snooping around property that doesn't belong to them. Also, follow our Facebook page and see if you recognize any of the individuals we post up there."
