Aurora Howe, long-time Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and Moose Jaw resident, made a last-minute decision with her family to head to Winnipeg for the Grey Cup and it turned into an unforgettable experience.
“It was awesome,” she told us. “We were so excited for this game and to actually make that quick drive to Winnipeg and to win it in Winnipeg of all places. I don’t think you could have written a better ending for this season.”
When the final play saw Montreal fail to complete a catch, sealing the Riders’ victory, the stadium erupted. “Everyone hugging and high-fiving and screaming. Everyone kind of ran down to get as close to the field as we could and then just kind of watch the celebrations from there.” Aurora said the energy was electric, and the support from Rider fans felt strong, even in an away crowd.
She noted that while Bomber fans seemed to dominate some zones, Rider fans held their own. “You could definitely tell they did not want Saskatchewan to win this year,” she said. But despite the rivalry, Aurora found the host city welcoming.
One of the most emotional parts of the trip for Aurora was spotting familiar faces: “It was just awesome to see so many people from Saskatchewan make that drive. I saw a lot of people that I knew around the stadium. It was really nice that a lot of people from around Moose Jaw too made that drive out.”
Aurora Howe was on the Mix 103 Morning Show with Calum McAnally to chat about her Grey Cup experience. Listen to the full conversation below.
