Riverview Collegiate has recently been recognized for the school’s attention and drive to promote inclusivity in its hallways.

The local high school was presented the National Inclusive Education Award of 2022 on June 4th.

“This award means that we work really hard as a staff and as a school to ensure that all students’ needs are being met. We pride ourselves on being inclusive within their academic needs, their recreational needs, and all aspects of life at Riverview,” says Riverview Principal Deanna Kemple.

Kemple continued to say that the school feels honored to be recognized for its efforts.

Riverview has a variety of clubs and programs that enable students to connect with each other and get involved with the school.

“We do have our life skills program which serves the needs of 22 students. They were really looking at how we include students as a whole. We have a lot of different things going on at our school. We have a gender and diversity club, we have Treaty 4 group that meets regularly. We’re constantly looking at the needs of our students and ensuring that we’re meeting those needs within their regular classrooms,” says Kemple.

The award will be hung up proudly on the wall in the main office and it’ll help inspire the school to continue to strive for effortless inclusion in every part of Riverview.
