Moose Jaw Minor Football got a boost over the weekend, as they entered a partnership with the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club.

Recently, the Kinsmen Club donated $10,000 towards minor football in our community.

Steven MacAulay, secretary for Moose Jaw Minor Football, explained what the funds mean for the organization.

“Directly, it means new jerseys for the players. In the recent years, we've been putting a lot of money towards the development of our practice fields and purchasing new and safer equipment for the kids just to make it a safer place to play and a safer sport to play entirely,” MacAulay said.

The partnership gives the Kinsmen Club the five-year naming rights to the league, which will now be known as Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football.

MacAulay said the relationship between the Kinsmen and minor football goes back a number of years.

“Years ago, the Moose Jaw Minor Football Association and Moose Jaw Kinsmen were in a partnership and through past boards we kind of lost that relationship in that community involvement with the Kinsmen,” he said.

“With our new board and our new kind of direction with minor football, we're trying to rebuild those community relationships.”

In return, the partnership will give the players an opportunity to volunteer in the community for Kinsmen events.

Moose Jaw Minor Football was fortunate to have a season last year before minor sports were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and they are optimistic that they will be able to hit the field again this year.

Registration is open for a spring high school league. Those looking for information or who would like to sign up can do so at Moose Jaw Minor Football’s website.
