As the summer heat bears down on Moose Jaw, those who find themselves looking to escape the rising temperatures may be looking for a spot in which they can cool down.

While there are many services in the city that offer various forms of support, be it food, counselling, or overnight shelter, options are limited for where to go during the day.

The Moose Jaw Public Library is one of the few locations in the city that offers a dedicated cool down space during the daytime hours, which during the heat wave currently being experienced by southern Saskatchewan, may find itself in high demand.

“If you just need a place to come and cool off, you’re welcome to come in. We have some puzzles out on the table that you can do,” said Naomi Setter, Public Service and Social Media Clerk at the Moose Jaw Public Library.

“Of course, you can always sit and read a book or a magazine or hang out and visit with your friends as well.”

There are plenty of other activities on offer within the library facility including showings of movies in the library theatre.

“We also have lots of movies happening in the theater throughout the summer,” Setter explained. “Thats’s also an opportunity to get out of the heat and sit in the theatre and enjoy a movie at the same time.”

The library is open to the public from:

  • 9:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday,

  •  9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday,

  • 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m on Sundays.
