It might sound kind of confusing. While Saskatchewan's job growth has improved since this time last year, the unemployment rate has increased since last month. The SaskParty Government says job growth has increased by 2.9 percent since February 2008.  But in the last month, Statistics Canada numbers show more people in the province are looking for work.

Advanced Education and Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris says the conference board has recently come out and said that Saskatchewan is going to be leading the country in economic growth.  "So, while were aware that we may be slowing down a bit on a relative scale, the growth is still expected to be the greatest among Canadian provinces."

Norris says the job numbers in Moose Jaw are also reflective of that, "What were seeing is increased activity in Moose Jaw. Today in Moose Jaw there are over 300 jobs available and we think that certainly augers well for Moose Jaw's economy." Norris says the reason for the increase in employment and the increase in the unemployment can be attributed to the province's population growth.
