Is it a sign of things to come? As the NDP celebrate a win over the Saskatchewan Party following Wednesday's by-election in Regina Northeast, political junkies are wondering what this will mean for the next general election in the province.

Yens Pedersen won the vote with over half of the vote compared to the 39% that the Saskatchewan Party's Gary Grewal collected.

The riding was left vacant following the resignation of former Finance Minister Kevin Doherty, who became the target of ridicule following one of the most unpopular budgets in recent memory. That budget in the spring of 2017 saw wide-sweeping cuts to funding and to payments made to municipalities across the province. Many of the decisions made in the budget would be tweaked or reversed in the months that followed.
