The city’s new landfill will be a major topic is discussion at tonight’s city council meeting. 

Presentations will be made by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and from consultants from GHD Limited and Associated Engineering. 

The Ministry of Environment will give a presentation on the Provincial Landfill Program. It will include the regulations and processes required to construct a new landfill and why the current landfill cannot be expanded. 

Representatives from GHD Limited and Associated Engineering will address city council to discuss the public consultation done around the project and the discretionary use application that will be going forward to the RM of Moose Jaw. 

The city has purchased two quarter sections of land about 2.5 kilometres north of the Moose Jaw. The next hurdle is getting approval from the RM of Moose Jaw for the discretionary use application. 

Also on the agenda, Moose Jaw Lacrosse and the Royal Canadian Legion will be looking to have special occasion permits approved. 

Moose Jaw Lacrosse is reapplying to sell alcohol at the Kinsmen Arena during Junior Mustang lacrosse games. The lacrosse association was approved for a permit last year with no issues reported. 

The Royal Canadian Legion is seeking a special events permit to host their third annual street dance and cabaret from June 29 at 5 p.m. to June 30 at 2 a.m. 

It’s also expected that Coun. Heather Eby will put forward a motion to create an official Downtown Business Improvement District and Coun. Dawn Luhning will make a motion is regards to federal infrastructure funding not keeping pace with population growth. 

Finally, the Moose Jaw Municipal Airport Authority will share an update on its strategic plan.
