Construction is underway on a project that has been several years in the making. Wakamow is getting a new pedestrian bridge just east of Highway 2. It will span the Moose Jaw River, connecting Wakamow to both Connor Park and Kingsway Park.

The suspension bridge was designed based off plans from a PFRA bridge back in the 1970's, but has been updated and tweaked according to CEO Margaret Moran.

"That bridge was designed to transport horses across, so it was only 3 feet wide. We thought that was a little narrow for a bridge so it had to be redesigned to be 6 feet wide to allow passage for two people. It needed to be shortened up as well. We didn't need such a long bridge.

The project is worth $400,000 but Wakamow is saving almost 25% in costs by having the Canadian Army Engineers string the cable and install the deck, as part of their training. The bridge should be open sometime this fall. A second bridge upstream is scheduled for next spring.
