People who like to talk, text or even surf the Internet while driving have five weeks to kick the habit before it's against the law.

Starting January 1st, it'll be illegal to use a hand-held cell phone while driving although drivers will be allowed to use hands-free devices.

The new legislation passed third and final reading in the legislature Wednesday. The penalty for violating the new law will be a $280 fine and four demerit points.
