The Moose Jaw Police Service will be getting their requested increase to the budget this year but there are questions about whether a 4% increase is enough to cover wage increases that will be coming.

It's expected to cost nearly $8 million to run the police service in 2014 with 87% of that going towards wages for staff. A lot has been assumed when it comes to the budget as Police Chief Rick Bourassa waits to finalize two big contracts. A support staff contract that dates back to 2011 and the officer's contract just ran out at the end of December.

When presenting his budget to council, Bourassa said they aren't sure what will come out of the contract negotiations but they had to include something in order to have the budget done in time. 81% of the approved increase for 2014 is to cover wage increases.
