Prairie South School Division will be holding a byelection on March 9 to fill a vacant spot on the board for the City of Moose Jaw (Subdivision #6).

Trustee Todd Johnson resigned from his position in November to take on the role of Transportation Manager for the division, which he began on Dec. 6.

"I saw the opportunity came up. I knew that if I wanted to apply I'd have to step down," he said. "I thought it was a good opportunity and matched my skill set."

Johnson was elected to the board back in 2020.

He touched on some of the highlights from the past two years.

"The excitement of being able to learn and really enjoy the part of how Prairie South interacts with the community and the kids and just trying to learn about different projects and learning about reading scores and how things were judged. Of course, when COVID was around, [we] went through that learning process and for the kids being in school and being out of school. There was a lot to learn and every day I was lucky enough that I sat at the board table and learned something new. It was a pretty great place to be."

The nomination period will open on Jan. 16 and close on Feb. 2 (Nomination Day).

Nomination forms will be available online in the coming days and can be returned to the division office in person, by e-mail, or by regular mail.
