It was hard to see a face that wasn't smiling in the community of Eyebrow on Thursday evening.

The rural community located North West of Moose Jaw celebrated the official grand opening of their fire hall this past week, and did it with friends, family and neighbors.

After years of collecting funds, receiving donations and doing their own hard work of upgrading equipment and training, there was a lot to be proud of and displayed on Thursday.

One piece of the puzzle, was the support that came with being chosen as this past year's winners of 800 CHAB's Great 8, which handed over a cheque of $5,000 to the board of the fire hall. That donation along with many others that were collected were a big reason as to why that night was a possibility and why there was so much joy at the event.

Residents, sponsors and people from surrounding communities were treated to supper and cake, followed by an official ribbon cutting to finish off the night.

"The ability to help neighbors and provide a service for the community," was the reason why Mike Maclachlan became a volunteer firefighter for his town and was pleased with amount of people who came to show their support.

Maclachlan said they plan to continue the progress they've made in the last few years regarding educations and updated tools, as he finds them very lucky to have a lot of people behind them for each and every call they get.

"Updating and training, helping our neighbors and our friends. We have a huge support of farmer volunteers who show up with equipment and water tanks, some of the neighboring departments don't have that kind of support."

Plenty of support came from the people who call or called Eyebrow home, but some of it also came from those who may one day see the trucks barreling down the highway to help another town. Which is why Adam Dombowsky and his business partners of Smooth 42, a distillery located in the town of Brownlee, sponsored a portion of the meal, and signed up at the fire hall recently too.

"It's great to have quality equipment in a rural centre and these are the guys that are protecting our building too if we ever have an issue. It's nice to have modern and up to date equipment to do the job or make the job easier," explained Dombowsky. "We wanted to try and give back to the community a little bit. Two of the three partners that live close here, we volunteered to the department as well to help pitch in if that need should arise."

About 100 people came out to see the brave people who make up the team of volunteer firefighters showing off all that they accomplished in the last few years.

It started as small beginnings for the fire hall, which was a two car garage donated by the RM, and now they've got a big building in the middle of town to assist anyone in need each time their phones ring.
