The board of education for Prairie South School Division (PSSD) and CUPE Local #5512 have ratified a new collective agreement.

The three-year agreement, which starts September 1, 2022 and ends August 31, 2025, will see employees receive a pay increase of three per cent in year one, and 2.5 per cent in years two and three.

"It just was a really nice experience and a very collaborative one," said Ryan Boughen, PSSD director of education and CEO. "We got to the agreement in pretty quick time because, from a benefits perspective, the agreement is in my opinion, pretty good so there wasn't a whole bunch there other than a little bit of some slight language tweaking. The hard part is usually the money. From a school division's point of view, our perspective was to be fair and reasonable and I think their response to that was to be fair and reasonable as well. We got to a place and ratified the agreement fairly quick. It was excellent."

The agreement, which covers non-teaching positions, was approved during a recent board meeting.

The next PSSD board meeting will take place Tuesday, January 17.
