In Saskatchewan, there are many different options to choose from to have a successful education, and English public schools is slowly becoming less chosen in 2017.

According to a recent analysis of Ministry of Education enrollment data by the Fraser Institute, the number of enrollments into English Public Schools in Saskatchewan had one of the greatest declines over the last 15 years in all of Canada.

Public Schools are still one of the top options to pursue an education, but some students have decided to look elsewhere. More students have decided to enroll in French Public schools, Roman Catholic schools, and many are choosing non-government education like home-schooling and independent schools that teach diverse religions like Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Montessori or arts-based education.

Saskatchewan has three public school systems that include English, French and Catholic which can teach both languages. French schools have shown an increase from 0.5% to 0.9%. Catholic schools have gone from 19.9% to 22.1%, which is more of a substantial increase. Public schools have dropped from the previous 77.5% to 73.3%.

The majority of students that are making the change from public schools have decided to enroll through independent and home-schooling options. Both are permitted and have funding provided to families to make sure that education is done properly. The independent school sector almost doubled from their previous number, according to data.

Saskatchewan remains third in the province in the highest amount of home-schooled students in Canada, behind Alberta and Manitoba.
