If you need to hit the highways today, you may want to give yourself some extra time.

The mild morning weather has brought some early morning rain with it, and with temperatures expected to drop this afternoon, sidewalks and roads are sure to become icy.

We have received word from a motorist driving from Moose Jaw to Saskatoon that Highway 11 near Davidson is ice covered with blowing snow, limiting visibility.

Blaine Lowry, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said a strong cold front will be pushing its way into the area Sunday, causing the hectic weather.

"The real story is with this cold front is you're going to get quite strong winds today [Sunday] in the late morning through the afternoon hours with gusts in the 80 to 90 kilometre per hour range out of the northwest," he said. "Accompanied by some rain-snow mix changing to snow, that could give some reduced visibility as that cold front comes through."

While the precipitation begins to turn into snow, the mercury will be dropping rapidly from a daytime high of 2 C to -15 C within a 12-hour stretch.

Make sure you get up to date road conditions by checking the highway hotline if you need to travel anywhere today.
